At the end of summer, yellow-jacket wasps slow down with the coming chill. They seem to know it will kill them, and they get mean, stinging without provocation. Waning dictatorships behave similarly: they feel power slipping from their grasp, and they lash out wildly, stupid in their rage and frustration, generally to no avail.
On January 22nd, 1973, the Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States generally protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion. On June 24th, 2022, the current Supreme Court overturned that landmark decision, thereby condemning the reproductive health of women and girls to an uncertain future.
Roe v. Wade—the original decision–was handed down 4 days after a Lunar Eclipse at 28°40′ Cancer. Pluto in Capricorn is opposing this degree as I write but it has not perfected that opposition: the exact aspect will happen on January 2nd, 2023; it returns, retrograde, August 2nd, 2023; and comes back once more, direct, on December 8th, 2023.
Pluto is the planet of power, politics, and control. Its message is, “Transform or die!” Capricorn is the sign of governments.
Abigail Adams, writing to her husband John after reading a draft of the Declaration of Independence, implored him to secure rights for women and enslaved persons within the Constitution, warning that not doing so would plague the American psyche ever after. She was not wrong.
