“If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because everything would be what it isn’t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn’t be. And what it wouldn’t be, it would. You see?”
Lewis Carroll’s Alice is caught in the toils of her own personal Mercury Retrograde. Ours begins today, and ends—all but for the catch-up Shadow Period—June 11th. And THIS one poses us a challenge: when nothing works in the outside world, we have to operate from within. So for three weeks, we have to trust our guts.
But let’s examine this: trusting one’s gut does NOT imply permission to run amok with a convenient retrograde to blame. No, what is being asked here is to try something different, something that may be counterintuitive. If your normal pattern is to ask for advice, DON’T: listen instead to your own read of the tried-and-true. If you are inclined to consult oracles, consider the views or mainstream instead. The Sabian image for 14• Gemini is “Bridging physical space and social distinctions, two men communicate telepathically.” The wisdom you receive may come from unlikely sources, but that’s no reason not to trust it: your intuition is always operating on a higher frequency during a Retrograde period, and your instincts will tell you if it’s off.
Mercury Retrograde is a GIFT. Its main spiritual purpose is to get us to think differently. We get to go back and correct our mistakes. It is a Do-Over, not a Hall Pass. But it allows us to reset the stage optimally for the next round of activity; and if we get lazy or self-indulgent, we will miss that opportunity.
